In communities between Mt.
Katahdin and the Atlantic Ocean, throughout Maine and
eastern New Hampshire, students and fishermen are gathering
information about aquatic environments using sophisticated
mobile technology that includes handheld computers,
GPS receivers, water temperature probes, and digital
cameras. They are all learning about the Gulf of Maine
Watershed as part of a program called Vital Signs.
Vital Signs
is an aquatic information gathering program developed
by the Gulf of Maine Research Institute to allow a wide
variety of people to record and share their environmental
observations: location, water and air temperature, weather
observations, general observations, and digital pictures.
For more information, call (207-772-2321) or email Sarah Kirn, Vital Signs Program Manager, at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
