On Location Aboard Alvin 2000:
Meet the researcher

Hi, my name is Alison Bray. I am a graduate student at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. For the past 5 years I have been in the Department of Earth Sciences and working under the direction of Dr. Karen Von Damm. I am a geochemist and oceanographer and am working towards my PhD.

My work is related to Krista Longneckers (we currently work on some of the same hydrothermal vent locations and went to sea together in the fall of 1998); she focused on the vent microbiology, whereas I research the chemical signature of the high temperature fluids, trying to understand how these fluids attain such a unique and extreme chemistry.

I would like to make a contribution to the Gulf of Maine Aquarium web site as I feel it's very important that the general public and especially younger students, have the chance to learn about our planet.
