Welcome to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute's Non-Flash Home Page

The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (formerly the Gulf of Maine Aquarium) was established in 1968 to educate Maine residents and visitors about Maine's fresh and saltwater resources, convene the interested public to discuss, debate and resolve aquatic resource conflicts, and conduct collaborative research to improve our understanding of the Gulf of Maine and its watershed. GMRI is currently engaged in an effort to build an innovative aquatic research and education institution that includes the Gulf of Maine Research Laboratory and, ultimately, a next-generation aquarium.
